The Application (theapplication.app, thegrad.app, and theundergrad.app) is operated by The Application LLC, a Colorado limited liability company (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Information we collect
Waitlist. If you join our pre-launch waitlist, we collect the email address you submit.
Account. When you create an account, we collect your email address through Google sign-in.
Application data. As you use the app, we store the data you enter: schools, deadlines, essays, requirements, profile details, and any advisor names or notes you add.
How we use your information
We use your data to provide the service: storing your applications, showing your dashboard, and sending deadline reminders you opt into.
If you joined the waitlist or otherwise opted in, we email you launch news and product updates. Every such email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the app: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), Google (sign-in), Resend (deadline-reminder emails), Kit (waitlist and newsletter emails), and Stripe (payment processing for paid features). We also use two analytics services to understand how the site is used: Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless service that gives us aggregate page-view counts without identifying individual visitors, and Google Analytics (GA4), which uses cookies to measure visits and, when we run ads, whether a signup came from one of our ads. Apart from the essential cookies that keep you signed in, those Google cookies are the only cookies on the site.
When you use an AI feature, such as program import or a fit check, the relevant data you are working with is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the result. Anthropic does not use data we send through its API to train its models. We do not sell your data.
Your data
Your application data is private to your account. You can edit or delete it at any time, request deletion of your account and associated data, and unsubscribe from our emails whenever you like.
Retention. We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When data is deleted, residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before they cycle out, and we may keep minimal records where the law requires it.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account any time from Settings. Deletion is a 30-day soft-delete: your data is retained but inaccessible, and you can restore it, along with any remaining paid entitlement, by signing back in within 30 days. After 30 days, your account and all associated data, including schools, essays, and uploaded files, are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Users under 18
Some of our users, especially on theundergrad.app, are high-school students under 18. We treat their data with the same practices described in this policy: we collect only what the service needs, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising. Our terms require a parent or legal guardian to agree on behalf of anyone under 18, and a parent or guardian can contact us at any time to review or request deletion of their teen’s account. The Application is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your privacy rights
Privacy laws in a growing number of states, including the Colorado Privacy Act and similar laws in California, Virginia, Connecticut, and Texas, give you rights over your personal data: to access what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, get a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data (we do not sell personal data, and we do not use your application data for ad targeting). We honor these requests from all users, wherever you live.
Much of this is built into the app: you can view and edit your data directly, and delete your account from Settings. For anything else (a copy of your data, a correction you can’t make yourself, or any other request), email support@theapplication.app. We will respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, we will explain why. You can appeal by replying to our response, and we will answer the appeal within 45 days; Colorado residents can also contact the Colorado Attorney General if they are unsatisfied with the outcome of an appeal.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above.
